MOERSCH Polychrome Kit I

Developer kit for the creation of coloured image tones, with or without lith effect:

The kit contains the developers LITH and SIENNA, as well as several additives for image tone control.
The silver prints produced in this developer combination are extremely receptive to the known toning processes.
Toning is not absolutely necessary. However, the selenium toner in various dilutions unleashes a veritable firework of coloured tones.
This development technique is only recommended for experienced lith printers! When matching to the most varied paper emulsions, our specifications must be strictly adhered to (until your own experience is available) in order to achieve the desired image tones.
Contains: Easy Lith 500ml (plus Lith D 50ml), Siena 250ml Polychrome Additives (2x250ml), 500ml LITH and 500ml SIENNA.

Knowledge of the lithprint technique is absolutely necessary !

First developer LITH: The Lith developer must be adjusted to the paper used. For the polychrome technique, the lith developer should be diluted less (1+5 to 1+10). Second developer SIENA : dilution = 1+10 to 1+30. This developer must also be adjusted to the paper used. Example: Fomatone (can also be used as a basic developer for other papers) Siena 25ml water 500-1000ml additive ammonium chloride 10-25ml additive carbonate 10-25ml (and dropwise as a regenerator after the 5th to 6th print) Unlike the classic lithprint technique, the image should appear relatively quickly in the first developer. Highlight and midtone drawing are not necessary here. What is important is a clear lith effect, i.e. the sudden onset of blackening in the shadow areas. (See also instructions for the lithprint technique). This so-called "snatch point" cannot be predicted exactly. The papers recommended above require different development times. The exposure time should be calculated in such a way that the snatch point for chlorine silver papers (Foma and Forte) is between 2 and 4 minutes, other papers need more time. The highlight is now created in the second developer. The time required depends on the paper used, the dilution and the amount of additives (1 to 6 min). If the image whites are occupied because of too much additive, Lith D or a 5 to 10% potassium bromide solution can be added to the second developer. Too much bromide reduces the colour intensity, so more than 5 to 10ml is not advisable. Then stop and fix as usual. With some papers a coloured image is already present. In emulsions with a high bromide silver content such as Efke Varycon, reddish image tones are only produced after toning in selenium toner. In principle, selenium toning can be recommended for all papers. Depending on dilution and exposure time, reddish, lilac to bluish image tones can be produced. Hardening of the gelatine may be necessary before strong toning! Too much ground haze is intensified by toning. When toning, make sure that the alkalinity of the second developer is as low as possible. With gold toning, yellow or red tones can be toned magenta or blue. Conventionally produced overexposed prints can be developed in colour with Siena after extensive soaking (!) and bleaching of highlights and mid-tones. To do this, the chloride and carbonate content must be increased.
